At the begin of my technical specialism unit in my rational I stated that I would be creating

AV content for a HND performance by both filming and editingcontent that could be used during the production.

However, I encountered many issues during my creative process.

The first issue was findinga HND performance that actually needed AV content creating for

the. This task could havebeen potentially difficult as the directors had already created the AV for themselves.

However, after emailing some of the directors two HND students,  Jemma Styles and Saffron

Docksey, explained that both of their shows were very AV heavy.

Although they had alreadyfilmed the majority of their footage they still needed someone to edit it all for them. I therefore had to come to a compromise with my technical specialism as I would be unable to record any content.

However, as in my rationale I said that I would be creating AV content I was still able to deliver my specialism I would just be focusing on the editing side of the AV rather than the capturing side.

As my specialism was now to edit the AV I re-wrote my concept proposal and explained how

I would go about creating the content for the shows. So me potential issues that I recorded

in my concept did actually occur. This issue was the fact that the raw footage provided was

not compatible with the editing software.

During the editing process I found that the

directors had filmed all of their footage from their mobiles.

One director had filmed their footage on an iPhone and as the editing software was on my

Mac the footage was easily compatible and the videos were able to sync to Final Cut.

However, the second director had their footage captured on a phone that was not compatible to my computer. Therefore to overcome the issue of getting videos onto my computer I came up with the idea to send the videos to my Facebook.

From here I was able to download the videos from Facebook to my computer. All footage was then able to be edited through Final Cut.

My research study also helped me to complete my technical specialism as although again it

looked predominantly at filming I was able to again pull some of my research into my

editing.

The main issue I looked at in my research project was finding ways to record scenes in low

lighting to create a darker image. Although my findings could not be used on the shots

themselves as the content had already been recorded. Whilst I was editing the footage

together the director explained they wanted some recorded content to be darker than other pieces used in the production.

Therefore using the knowledge I had gained from my research project I found that I could use Final Cut to add an effect over the footage to make it look old fashioned and darker when the audience were watching it. This was done to

make people believe the footage was filmed a long time ago.

After all the effects had been added to the final videos and both shows had been finished an

edited to a high standard I felt that I had successfully completed my technical specialism as Iinitially set out to complete a piece of AV content for a HND performance and although I was unable to film the content for one show I instead spent weeks editing content for 2 shows.

Therefore meaning I have lived up to my initial rationale and concept. After the productions themselves is that if I had the chance to improve so that I could live up to my full rationale I would want to be involved in the production process from the start so that I would be able to film the content myself on a professional camera (Canon XA10) as oppose to taking pre-recorded footage off a mobile phone.

In conclusion I feel that although I was not able to completely deliver on my initial rationale by filming the content. I believe that what I achieved whilst editing for 2 shows surpassed my initial thoughts of what I could achieve.

At the beginning of this process I had not used Final Cut before however, at the end of the project I now have a great understanding of the editing software and have not only learnt valuable skills that I otherwise would not have learnt during this process. But also been able to create an effective edited piece of AV for two shows within a tight timescale of 2 weeks.
